Build The Mallard - the famous train. The 1930s record breaking aerodynamic locomotive was built by LNER. Designed by Sir Nigel Gresley, The Mallard Train was one of a new breed of super sleek, super fast trains which slashed journey times. The Mallard Train claimed its place in the railway hall of fame on the 3rd July 1938 when it set the world speed record for a steam train of 126 mph - still unsurpassed today. This model is made with foam board - a great material to build with as the joints are all pre-sliced, so they bend and fit together easily with no need for any cutting or glue.
