The ancestors of the current owner, J. DIETER HOPF luthier,lived in Klingenthal / Markneukirchen.The name HOPF first appeared in 1669 in instrument making.The first detectable luthier of the Hopf family was CASPAR HOPF (1655-1716).His direct descendant CASPAR HOPF II (1677-1711) has long been regarded as the principal talent of this family of makers. ERNST MAX HOPF (1882-1956) learned the profession of string maker and founded a firm of E.Max Hopf, string makers in 1906.
