This British shell case has been simply worked with the top cut & bent into a series of petal shapes. Probably made in the trenches & used their as a candle holder. It is a dated 1918 & was found at a market in a village south of the town of Amiens on the Great Western Front. The underside has many markings - see photos: Principally: 4.5 How - Howitzer shell & manufacturer Birmingham metals & Munitions. On the outside it says Bray 71 - Bray is however in department 71 of France but i cannot understand the relevance of this. The shell is in good condition for it's age, it has been well polished over the years. Height: 7.5cm, diameter of base: 13 cm A fantastic collector's piece. The majority of my items are vintage & as such bear the marks & scars of their preloved life! I do my best to photograph & describe them as honestly & accurately as possible. If you have any questions however small please contact me. It is important to me that you are happy with your purchase, if you're not, please contact me & we can arrange a refund. 10 - Ww1 Trench Art, Vintage British Shell The Great War, Man's Gift, Militaria
